When I felt inadequate I would cover it with uppityness

I used to have a collection of excuses, stories, and lies, such as: “Sorry I am late, it is the traffic” (again); “Sorry I did not get your message, my message box is full” (as usual); “I cannot talk for long, my phone battery is low” (again); “I can’t confirm my schedule for now (stay on hold).

All that was the result of a sense of failure, as if my very existence was a mistake. Once I changed those lousy behaviors, others began reacting differently to me, and I began to feel different about myself.
